Creating value for our communities

In H2 2024, Sasa developed a communications plan for its audio alarm system ahead of construction, to engage project-affected people and stakeholders by encouraging two-way dialogue and supporting clear, open communication. In 2025, following the official handover of the alarm system to the Crisis Management Centre (CMC), Sasa collaborated with the CMC to launch a comprehensive community engagement and communication programme.

This initiative raised awareness within the local community and addressed concerns ahead of the planned live siren test, using targeted outreach and clear, accessible information to support preparedness. It aligns with the Global Industry Standard on Tailings Management, which highlights the importance of transparent communication and local engagement regarding potential risks and emergency response.

Makedonska Kamenica became the first municipality in North Macedonia to have a fully functional audio alarm system for natural disasters, with Sasa leading the way as the first company in the country to invest in world-class industrial standards and practices to mitigate the risks of incidents and crises. This serves as a model for other companies and institutions across the country to follow.
