Howard Nicholson
Technical Director
Howard is a metallurgist with 40 years of experience in project development and mine operations management. Formerly the COO of European Minerals Corporation, he contributed to the development of a large copper-gold mine in Kazakhstan, and prior to this had held senior management positions with Ashanti Goldfields, Lonrho, and Anglo American.
Scott Yelland
Chief Operating Officer
Scott is a mining engineer with over 40 years’ experience in underground and surface mining operations. Before joining CAML, he was COO of Shanta Gold and has previously held senior executive roles with Konkola Copper Mines, Highland Gold Mining, Forte Energy and Berkeley Resources. Scott has a Master’s degree in Mining Engineering from the Camborne School of Mines, and started his career working in the Cornish tin mines. He is a Chartered Engineer and a Fellow of the Institute of Materials, Minerals and Mining.
Nick Shirley
Group Sustainability Director
Nick has over 20 years of experience in the fields of environmental sciences, social responsibility and hydrogeology gained predominately in the international overseas mining industry in Central Asia, the Former Soviet Union and West Africa. He has formerly worked for the Environment Agency in the United Kingdom, Avocet Mining, Newmont-BHP’s joint venture Society De la Mine de Fer de Guinea, and Orsu Metals as well as operating his own consultancy practice. Nick holds a BSc in Environmental Sciences and a MSc in Hydrogeology from the University of East Anglia.
Pavel Semenchenko
Regional Manager, Kazakhstan
With over 17 years’ experience of managing businesses in Kazakhstan and a proven track record in the resources industry, Pavel has excellent management skills and an in-depth knowledge of the country’s business environment.
Vitaliy Logachev
General Director of Kounrad Copper Company, Kounrad
Vitaly is an engineer and economist with degrees from the Zhezkazgan University and Almaty International Transport and Humanitarian University respectively. He has significant experience in both the Kazakhstan mining and electrical industries and joined CAML in 2014. His initial role with the company was as a Chief Power Engineer before working his way up to become Production Director, Technical Director and, as of 2024, General Director. He is a Kazakh national.
Raulan Kozgambayev
General Director of Sary Kazna, Kounrad
Raulan is an economist with a degree from the Kazakh State Academy of Management. He has significant experience in the Kazakhstan mining industry and joined CAML in 2013 as Kounrad’s lead economist. Raulan was appointed Deputy General Director of the Kounrad operation in 2018 and General Director of Sary Kazna in 2024. He is a Kazakh national.
Chris Colbourne
General Director, Sasa
Chris is a Mining Engineer with over 30 years of experience across the globe in the technical, operational and management of mines. Prior to joining CAML, Chris was Mining Director at Norgold, working on supporting, guiding, and improving mining operations across all underground and open pit assets for the company. Chris has also held senior roles at Rio Tinto where he worked for over 14 years and the Balla Balla Infrastructure Group. Chris has a B.Eng. Honours Degree in Mining Engineering from the Camborne School of Mines and Master of Science Degree in Mineral Economics from the Curtin University of Technology & Western Australian School of Mines, Australia. He is also a Registered Chartered Engineer with the Engineer Council in London, and a Registered Professional Engineer with the Engineering Council of South Africa.
Ivica Talevski
Deputy General Director, Sasa
Ivica joined the procurement department at Sasa in 2016 and was promoted to Commercial Director in 2018. Prior to working at Sasa, he held senior procurement roles with SGSM whilst that group was constructing a key strategic gas pipeline in North Macedonia. Ivica previously spent almost five years working in procurement and supply management with US company, KBR, which was awarded a logistics contract by the US Government and the Department of Defence in order to support armed forces in Iraq and Afghanistan. Ivica holds an undergraduate degree in Business Administration and a MBA, and was appointed Sasa’s Deputy General Director in 2020.
